Bathabile Appeneth Zulu was running a business selling cosmetic products, when she was referred to Phakamani by her relative who is a Phakamani client. Her cosmetics business was struggling and she would end up buying food with the money that she’s meant to use for restocking. With her initial loan of R2 000 in July 2023 Bathabile started selling avocados, and when avocados went out of season, she increased her second loan to R3 000 to stock up meaty beef bones.
She is grateful for the business skills that she has gained through Phakamani. Learning to study her market, and understand her customers’ needs, led to her decision to start selling meaty beef bones which are not seasonal and always in high demand.
Bathabile says that her life has improved since joining Phakamani because she is now able to provide for her three grandchildren, and she has learned to keep savings from the business for unforeseen events. Phakamani has also enabled her to continue running both her cosmetics and meat businesses successfully.
